The most special day of their life’s, some of the biggest decisions ever needed to be made. compromises, tears, smiles and more. That probably rings true for all who have been involved in wedding planning. With so many people to choose from, for many different items and services its impossible to have all the right information for every precious purchase.

The wedding DJ can be one of those thing that gets less scrutiny, for many reasons that could fill another article we should always follow a few basic rules to ensure we are getting what we want on the night. A poor choice could really have an impact on those ever lasting memories.

A mistake that many people make is believe that every wedding DJ is the same. This is just not true, every DJ has their own format and style. Good DJs will be able to adjust to audience at the wedding and the current vibe at that precise moment in time throughout the evening.

Rule number one, always ask the DJ you are approaching if its possible to come along to an upcoming event. If they seem put out by the idea avoid at all costs.

Rule number two is always as for references. Again decent DJs will have decent references and will be more than happy to share these with you.

Next is always ensure your DJ has public liability insurance and all equipment is PAT tested. Many venues will only allow the use of equipment when it has been fully tested and certified. Make sure when you enquire they could produce the certificates if asked on the night by the venue.

Rule five, make sure you can chose some, if not all of the tracks that can be played. You should be able to give the DJ a list of songs you want and that should include important songs like the first dance or music during the meal.

Wedding DJs should always have a contract signed between them and you to protect both parties. In the event a problem arises you have written legal document to fall back on.

You should also always be able to get in contact with your chosen DJ at anytime with any concerns or requirements. Phone the prospective DJ and see if they answer before sealing any deal. Give them 24 hours to respond if they don’t answer. If they are professional you can be sure they will return your call!
