You’ve fallen in love and made the decision to purchase the perfect engagement rings. Then, one evening while the mood was perfect, you got down on one knee and presented it to her, asking for her hand in marriage.

Then, all of your hopes and dreams came true when she uttered one word: ‘yes.’

You couldn’t be happier, and now all that’s left to do is plan the wedding and ride off into happily ever after. Right?

Wrong.

Now you have to tell your parents, and hers, that you are engaged. While this is often a simple thing to do, they will appreciate it if you put a bit of effort into telling them and make it a special moment they will never forget. So, after you propose, put down the phone and forget calling or texting the news. If you want to tell your parents she said yes in a unique way, consider the following ideas.

Unique Ways to Announce Your Engagement

Set up a Proposal for Them Too- If you decided not to go the traditional route of asking for your fiancée’s hand in marriage, consider setting up a cute proposal for your soon-to-be mother and father-in-law. Get down on one knee and present them both with a small box. Instead of presenting them with wedding rings, however, give them something small and special, like a pair cufflinks for the father and a beautiful necklace for her mother. As you present them with the gift, say, “Will you be my mother-in-law? (or father-in-law)”

Go on a Double Date- Invite your parents or her parents out on a double date and pay for everything. Treat them to a night they will enjoy immensely. During the date, or at the beginning if you don’t think you can keep quite anymore, have your fiancée ask someone to pass the bread or the salt. When they pass it, your fiancée should reach for it with her left hand and flash her engagement ring. We recommend asking your mother or mother-in-law to pass the bread, as she is more likely to notice the ring first before your dad or father-in-law will. They will both be surprised and you can end the night with a bottle of champagne to toast to the start of two new families.

Capture the Moment on Camera- Do your parents, or hers, have a picture of when they were engaged or one where they are wearing their wedding rings? If so, see if you can get your hands on it. Then, have someone take a picture while you are presenting engagement ring bands to your one and only. Frame both of these pictures and give them as a gift to your parents and hers. You can then attach a note saying something along the lines of, “You showed us what true love really means. We hope our marriage is as blessed as yours is!”

When you present her with vintage engagement rings, make sure you make an effort to make telling her parents, and yours, that you are engaged just as special. They will truly appreciate it and remember it for years to come.
