Although not many may want to admit it, premature ejaculation is a problem for many men. Surveys have shown that 30 percent of men worldwide are plagued with this issue, and that every man would experience it at least once in their lifetime. However, diagnosis is only the first step. Knowing does not mean that you have to live with it for life, as premature ejaculation is treatable; once you know that this condition is the sources of your troubles, finding ways to treat it would simply be a few steps away. The main problem with this condition is that not many would divulge their problems or discuss it. This way, those who could actually benefit from treatment are missing out from information that could possibly banish their prowess problems.

The first thing that one has to do is to identify the problem. Without knowing what the condition actually is and why it occurs, finding effective ways to treat it would not be possible. There is no formal diagnosis on what is defined as premature ejaculation. Today, physicians largely use a subjective yardstick; premature ejaculation is deemed to occur when a person does not last as long as he or his partner would have wanted to. Certain scholars deem that the time standard should be capped at two minutes; however, doctors in the ’40s found that the majority of men were lasting less than two minutes in half of their encounters. Some narrow down the criteria even more, with ejaculation occurring before or just right after penetration.

Surprisingly, it is deemed that the problem is largely not physical, but psychological. Most men last as brief as they do not because their bodies limit them from doing more, but because they are restricted by mental blocks. Anxiety and stress has been shown as several of the top causes of this condition, but overstimulation is also a prevalent cause. Of course, at times muscular problems can be a cause for climaxing too early, but more often than not there is an underlying psychological reason for such problems to manifest. It is then apparent, that because the problem is largely in our heads, the right exercises and mindset can help treat premature ejaculation.

The first thing that one can do is to change his mindset. Most people who suffer from premature ejaculation worry too much on their performance, and this self-shaming is what often turns one’s worries into reality. The more relaxed and self-assured you are in bed, the less would premature ejaculation affect you. Remind yourself that ejaculating too early is merely a problem of the mind, and that you are in charge of your mentality. Communicate your concerns with your partner to lessen anxiety.

There are also methods which can help you cope with overstimulation, which is another leading cause on why some climax faster than they intend to. Some practice the stop and start method, whereby stimulation is stopped for a while prior to continuing once a man feels that he is on the brink of climaxing. Others practice the squeeze method, whereby–aside from having a thirty-second break–the area where the glans meets the shaft is gently squeezed. There are also products existing in the market called desensitizing cream. These products basically intend to achieve the same thing as the previous two methods-delaying ejaculation by temporarily reducing stimulus.

One thing which those with premature ejaculation have testified for is that practice makes perfect. They found that the more familiar they are with their body and their partner, the better they will perform. With time, you will find yourself more at ease and will know which positions or techniques work best for you and your partner. Experience will induce a better sense of self-confidence and fine-tune your techniques, freeing you from the bounds set by premature ejaculation.
